Türkiye and Azerbaijan

Türkiye is a net exporter regarding the foreign trade with Azerbaijan. Exports, which were over 3 billion USD in the 2013-2014 period, decreased below 2 billion USD in the following years, and reached the lowest level with 1.3 billion USD in 2016.

In 2020, Azerbaijan's exports to Turkey decreased by 9.3% compared to 2019 and amounted to 2,597.8 million dollars. Azerbaijan's imports from Türkiye decreased by 5.1% compared to 2019 and amounted to 1.563.0 million dollars.
In 2020, Türkiye's share in Azerbaijan's total trade volume is 13.54%. Turkey is the second country with the largest trade volume with Azerbaijan after Italy.
Despite the pandemic, in 2020, 2 billion USD exports and 411 million USD imports are realized. In 2021, exports increase by 12% compared to the previous year and reach 2.3 billion USD, while imports increase by 83% to 751 million USD. Thus, while the foreign trade volume reached 3 billion USD, the foreign trade surplus against Azerbaijan decreased to 1.5 billion USD compared to the previous year.
According to United Nations (UN) COMTRADE database, Azerbaijan ranks 51st in the world with a total of 22.2 billion shipments in 2021, and 65th with 11.7 billion shipments. The closest commercial enterprise is establishing with Italy, Türkiye, Russia, Israel and Croatia. Export order is respectively Italy, Türkiye, Russia. While Turkey exports 2.34 billion to Azerbaijan in 2021, it imports 751 million from Azerbaijan. By the end of 2021, Azerbaijan exports 12,69% of its annual exports to Turkey.
In the January-August period of 2022, exports to Azerbaijan increased by 4.7% to 1.5 billion USD; In the same period, imports increased by 28.7% and reached 570 million USD. According to 2021 data, machinery, aircraft, electrical equipment sectors stand out in exports to Azerbaijan and constitute 30% of exports to the country. In imports, cotton-cotton yarn accounts for 62% of the imports from the country, and aluminum goods for 24%.
